Personal Update
 Greetings!

Dan PetersonAs we come upon the Thanksgiving season, I can't help but thank God for you and all you are doing in our district. Thanks for partnering with Converge MidAtlantic in spreading the good news of the Gospel.

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. Hebrews 13:15

In Christ,
Dan Peterson
Michael Henderson called as part-time Church Planting Director for
Converge MidAtlantic

HendersonAt the September 21 meeting of our Converge MidAtlantic Board of Overseers, Pastor Michael Henderson was appointed to serve as part time Church Planting Director for our District. CMA has entered into an agreement with Pastor Henderson and New Beginnings Church in Charlotte, NC to contract for 20% of his time to help direct our growing District church planting efforts. Michael will begin effective November 1.

Pastor Henderson has planted two churches in our District and helped start up a third church plant as a young leader in Akron, OH. He currently is one of our church planting coordinators, and is serving as the Coordinator for our church planting coaches, resourcing them regularly for their coaching ministry with church planters. New Beginnings Church in Charlotte recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary. The congregation is one of the fastest growing churches in our entire Converge movement, and is now involving over 2000 people every weekend.

Pastor Henderson will continue to work with our team of Church Planting Coordinators, including Damian Williams and Pastor Ron Crawford. Other church planting leaders may be added to the leadership team, as we seek to grow our church planting systems to an even higher level of excellence, and strengthen the overall impact of our movement across the MidAtlantic. Funds for this part-time Church Planting Director position have been given from churches across our district over the past two years. We will contract with Pastor Henderson for an initial two-year period of time, and consider next steps at that time. Please pray for Michael and his wife Twanna, as Pastor Henderson begins this leadership role in our District.

Movement Events and Plans
coachesThirteen leaders in our Converge MidAtlantic district were recently re-certified or certified as Church Planting Coaches at our Coaches training event, Oct 4-5, in Pittsburgh. Dan Peterson, Mike Henderson, and Gary Rohrmayer from ConvergeUSA led the training conference.  Leaders involved included: Charles Whitaker, Nurney Mason, Ernie Bartolome, Damian Williams, Ron Crawford, Jason Allison, Jim Eaton, Bill Denning, Dave Knickerbocker, and Gordon Mooney, in addition to those helping facilitate. Coaching is one of the critical and essential legs upon which our movement rests. Coaches connect up with church planters typically for at least a two-year period of time, meeting with them at least monthly and resourcing our planters in many vital ways.

Generosity Summit
Generous Church Summit LogoNearly 150 leaders from the MidAtlantic region and across our entire Converge movement convened at First Baptist Glenarden, on September 22-23, for a stirring Generosity Summit. Leaders and teams of leaders from at least 20 churches were challenged by Scott Ridout of Converge Worldwide, President Jerry Sheveland, Pastor John Jenkins, Andy Stanley via video venue, and several other nationally known leaders. Participants were introduced to amazing stories of individuals and churches that are practicing incredible generosity in meeting needs of people and communities around the world. Participants were given hands on ideas for building a generosity culture in their churches, for providing teaching and training in the area of generosity, and for helping our people break the bondage of greed and materialism even in a down time economically. The generosity movement is definitely on the rise and growing across our movement. If you desire to learn more about the generosity vision or gain access to specific resources, contact Dan at the Converge MidAtlantic office.

LEAD Team Retreats Planned

Lead Team 09
Two LEAD Team retreats are planned for January, 2010 involving leaders from all six of our MidAtlantic LEAD Teams. Each retreat will involve the members of three LEAD Teams, working together and also working as individual teams on a strategic plan for church planting in their respective areas. On January 11-12, 2010, our Central OH, NE OH, and NY/Northwestern PA teams will meet together, and on January 19-20, 2010, our Eastern PA, Metro DC, and NC/VA teams will meet together. Our LEAD Team Head Coaches and Converge leadership will help facilitate each event. Every LEAD Team member is asked to ink in the appropriate date on his calendar!

Church Planting Assessment Center Dates
Dates for assessment centers in 2010 are now in place. If you or your church are planning to send a church planting candidate to an assessment center this next year, please make plans accordingly. Dates and locations are as follows:

African-American Pastors Summit
A second African American Pastors summit is planned for January 13-15, 2010, in
Landover, MD, at First Baptist Church of Glenarden. This is a national event for African American leaders across the entire Converge movement, and is a follow up event to the summit held at Bethel University in June of this year. For further information, you can contact Pastor Michael Henderson at New Beginnings Community Church in Charlotte. Summits like this are very helpful venues to process issues and plans affecting our churches and our movement. Every African American pastor is encouraged to participate.

Pastors and Spouses Getaway
StonewallResort
Our CMA executive staff is pleased to announce and invite all Converge MidAtlantic pastors and spouses to our 2010 Pastors and Spouses Getaway, planned for Monday through Wednesday, May 17-19, 2010, at the Stonewall Resort in West Virginia! This will be a fantastic opportunity for renewal and connecting up for our movement leaders. One of our own movement leaders and Pastoral couple, Rod and Sheri Hairston of Messiah Community Church near Baltimore, MD, will serve as presenters speaking on marriage and ministry issues. The Stonewall Resort facility is a fabulous place and is really very centrally located in our region. Much of the cost will be underwritten by our District. Every Pastor and spouse is encouraged to put these dates on your calendar now.  More details will be coming out very soon!

Personal Update
As this Thanksgiving season approaches, Sandi and I want to thank God for His incredible provisions for us personally. And we want to thank Him for the many ways He has blessed us and our family. We recently returned from a visit to Anne Marie who is an ESL teacher in Casablanca, Morocco. What a blessing it was to spend time with her, to see how well she is doing in Morocco, and to see how God is using her and taking care of all her needs. I saw again how being exposed to a different culture is so helpful in looking more objectively at our own culture, and in seeing how the Gospel is the power of God to change culture and to transform lives. I saw too, how blessed we here in the U.S. really are, and how God calls us to live generously and to build communities of generosity in our churches.

We also want to thank God for each of you. During the past several months, we have again experienced wonderful ministry and relationship opportunities with many leaders and churches in our District. Each of you encourage our hearts and fill us with a lot of joy. I honestly believe we have the absolute finest pastors, leaders, and churches in the entire Converge movement. We truly love each of you and thank God for you.

It is our prayer, that God will richly bless you and your family during this Thanksgiving season.  May He show Himself strong and real to you, and may you find your heart overflowing with joy for who He is and for all He is doing in and through you.

May you and your family experience a rich and blessed Thanksgiving season!

Sincerely in Christ,

Dan and Sandi Peterson
