Relief for a Hurting World
It is the desire of Converge MidAtlantic to unite the 70 churches in our six state district in providing help to people on the continental United States and in foreign lands, especially those where affiliated missionaries minister, who are deeply affected through natural disasters, manmade suffering, and other acts that prevent those peoples from pursuing life as they have known it in its best of times.
To that end, we have set up this area on our website where we will post how you, the individual, as well as you, our churches, can lend help and support through one of three important means:
PRAY!
During every time of our greatest need, it is to God whom we turn, crying out to Him to ease our pain and sorrow. When we were so destitute of spirit and could not cry out on our own behalf, others have cried out for us. For this reason, we must take it upon ourselves to cry out on behalf of those in the midst of deep trial, sorrow and loss.
Jesus promised to hear and answer our prayers:
John 14:12-14 "I tell you the truth: anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do
it."
We know for sure that God hears and answers our prayers:
1 John 5:14, 15 "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us - whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of Him."
GIVE!
Depending on the disruption in the affected area(s), financial contributions and in-kind donations (clothes, food, building materials, drinking water, beds, etc.) will be needed. We will post on this page a list of items currently being accepted to meet the current need, where to send these contributions, and when possible, how donations will be distributed.
2 Corinthians 8:13-15 "Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality. At the present time, your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn, their plenty will supply what you need. Then there will be equality, as it is written: 'He who gathered much did not have too much and he who gathered little did not have too little."
GO!
There are those in our churches who have skills and abilities and the time in which to use them who could make an impact in the afflicted areas by going and doing. On current relief page, we will list what type of helpers are needed in the various areas and try to help those interested in going be in touch with those who are organizing work crews. If you do not see a listing for this need, it will mean none has been requested.
James 2:15 "What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food? If one of you says to him, 'Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,' but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."
Matthew 25:37-40 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothes you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go visit you? "The King will reply 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."
